"Assata Speaks" Book Launch & Live Political Forum
Join us for an exclusive in-person book launch and community discussion celebrating the release of Assata Speaks by Bibi Angola (author, friend and legal counsel to Assata Shakur), featuring guest host and grassroots organizer Kalonji Changa.
Hosted before a gathering of community organizers, scholars, and activists, this live event moves beyond traditional book signings to deliver an incisive political forum on the enduring legacy, strategy, and global relevance of Assata Shakur. Drawing directly from the insights of Assata Speaks, Angola and Changa will lead an unvarnished dialogue connecting the history of the Black Liberation Movement to the urgent realities of contemporary resistance.
Author Bibi Angola will introduce the central themes of the new book, situating Shakur’s life and writing within the material conditions, political repression, and ideological debates of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army.
“It is a collection of essays and statements made by Assata Shakur aka Joanne Chesimard, and essays ABOUT her from various people.
Now that this beautiful warrior Queen has joined the ancestors on September 25, 2025, just a week and a day ago, we are reminded of why she is so love and respected worldwide.
She gave us hope for the future and reminded us that a ship lost at sea can still be steered home with something as little as a compass.
Will you rise to be a part of that compass now or will you quietly succumb, give up, or unresistingly yield to the new order that is trying to rob future children and generations to come from a life of joy.”
- Bibi Angola
“I have no doubt it will be an invaluable resource for all those in the anti-imperialist, anti-racist struggle for generations to come.”
