Yuri Kochiyama Featured in Foundations and Futures
The Yuri Kochiyama Solidarity Project is proud and honored to be a part of Foundations and Futures: Asian American and Pacific Islander Multimedia Textbook. This textbook is a revolutionary educational project in making uncensored Asian American history accessible to everyone. More than a typical textbook - Foundations and Futures provides a comprehensive, interactive, and accessible way to engage with Asian American histories often marginalized by mainstream Asian American representation.
In their own words, this textbook “celebrates the hidden histories of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to provide a fuller understanding of the American experience and the contemporary world” and “contains hundreds of images, videos, poems, archival documents, and interviews, with ready-to-use lesson plans for high school and college students and the general public.”
Karen Umemoto and her team of scholars at the UCLA Asian American Studies Center built this site as a free and excellent model for how educators, activists, and archivists can collaborate to help people to know and understand their own histories.
We are honored to have Yuri featured in this groundbreaking work. Please read about her life and story here :)
